Red Wiggler

While considered invasive in  the US, the red-wiggler cannot get a good foothold because of the cold Canadian winters. As such they are perfectly designed to quickly turn our kitchen scraps into fertilizer.

This year my students fed and cared for the worms regularly. I started with a couple handfuls of these little tiger worms and they've multiplied a bunch! Another classroom was able to start their own colony using a couple handfuls themselves.
